SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM
13th September 2023

On September 13, 2023, the Sustainability Department of Pacific Inter-Link Sdn Bhd (PIL) organized a School Outreach Program at the International Modern Arabic School (IMAS) with the participation of 25 students. This program consisted of planting and composting workshops, which were led by the Free Tree Society (FTS). The main goal of this program is to impart knowledge pertaining to proper planting practices and create awareness about how composting can contribute to waste reduction.

The program began with the planting of Pokok Merbau by Dr. Waleed, the Academic Director of IMAS, at the school compound as a symbol to kick-start the program. Next, all the students were divided into several groups consisting of 4 students for planting workshop. Each group planted edible plants such as chili, pandan, okra, brinjal and mulberry in the school compound. The students also ploughed land and planted vegetable seeds and were taught on proper means of seed planting. After planting, the participants were also exposed to the correct methods for making compost by using vegetable scraps and dry leaves as the ingredients.

This workshop met its objective to expose students to grow their own food in a sustainable manner besides reducing green waste and turning it into nutrient rich compost.
